Stopping - by Frosty Rider

Stopping requires that you steer your board sideways, either across the fall-line (directly downhill) or perpendicular to the direction of travel; whichever has greater impact at the time. ALWAYS turn to ride on the uphill edge of the board (whether it be heel-edge or toe-edge).

Increase the edge angle progressively for more stopping power, decreasing the angle has the opposite effect.  Maintain balance over the uphill edge. Remain upright with your knees slightly bent. Once you have come to a complete stop, you may find it difficult to maintain balance.  If so just sit down on the snow.  Once you are ready to go again, stand back up and you are off again!

CAUTION:  It is not feasible to stop suddenly, especially when you are going fast; so leave some room, think smart, and look ahead.
